Today’s most prominent buzzwords are Machine learning and Computational Intelligence which are dominating all the traditional systems built previously and offering to develop more efficient real-time systems. The research group comprises like-minded research groupings led by faculties including research scholars’ graduate students from interdisciplinary disciplines at PICT, Pune. The group works on designing machine learning models for complex, relational, unstructured, and heterogeneous data and use appropriate computational methods to design and develop real world applications.
A grand challenge for the CI community is to propose more efficient knowledge representation and retrieval structures, perhaps modelled on the associative memory of the brain using different knowledge representations for different purposes. Vector and similarity based models cannot yet replace complex frames in reasoning processes. Semantic networks could provide efficient association and inference mechanisms, have never been used on a large scale.
The new methodologies like Representation Learning, Deep Learning, Distributed and Parallel Learning, Transfer Learning, Active Learning as well as Kernel-based Learning will be developed by exploiting existing knowledge for designing the successful systems in different interdisciplinary application domains such as Banking, Finance, Services, Healthcare, Education and Agriculture.
